Spring into Cleaning! Utility Box Cleaning
4/22/2018 (Permalink)
This month, we’ve been talking about spring cleaning and some really great tips from our PROS on areas that we don’t typically associate with spring cleaning. Today we tackle another of those areas – the utility box. It’s an often over-looked area, but in the event of the unexpected the following tips can really save you from a headache.
- Tip #1: Be sure the box itself is clear of dust and debris
- Tip #2: Make sure the utility box is not blocked. In the event of an emergency you want quick, easy access to it.
- Tip #3: Be sure to check the labeling every spring. If you haven’t done this in some time, it’s possible that the label is peeling. Re-apply those labels and make it easier for service providers such as ourselves to get the job done.
That’s it for today, we hope you will join us for next week’s Friday lunchtime minute, where you get tips from the PROS. And remember, when the unexpected happens call SERVPRO of Jackson/Crockett County.

Did you know a few, simple maintenance tips can save your washing machine?
2/15/2018 (Permalink)
Washing machines are one of the trusty work horses in the home. Researchers estimate that the average family of four does about 8 to 10 loads of laundry a week; that’s over 500 loads of laundry a year! With that much work, it’s important to be good to your washing machine. Here are some preventative maintenance tips you should perform to keep the work horse running happy:
- Did you know your washing machine lines should be replaced every 3-5 years? Each time the machine is turned on or off, the lines are contracting and expanding, which leads to eventual wear and tear. Replacing those line every 3 to 5 years will lead to a happier machine.
- Replacing your machine lines are as easy as replacing your outdoor hoses. But, please remember to make sure your water is shut off before you begin, and you are securing them with a wrench.
- If you have rubber hoses replace them with stainless steel braided hoses.
If the unexpected happens and your washing machine line springs a leak and causes water damage, know that your local SERVPRO is here to help.

Safety Christmas tips
12/7/2017 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of Jackson/Crockett County wishes you a safe and happy holiday season!
December is the darkest time of the year. Thursday, December 21st, 2017, will mark the winter solstice, which means it will be the official beginning of the winter and the shortest day of 2017.
However, we all be brightened by the Christmas decorations since every home - most likely - will use a touch of lights and candles. You just need to be aware that your lights and candles need to be used very carefully if you want to preserve the joy of Christmas until the end.
The American Red Cross shared with us the following safety tips to prevent a fire from striking at your home or business this holiday season.
- Christmas trees, candles, and other decorations must be at three feet away from fireplaces, portable heaters, radiators, heat vents and other heat sources.
- Light strings and other decorations must be in good condition. Do not use worn electrical cords, and follow the manual’s instructions.
- Before leaving the house to visit family or before going to bed, you must unplug your tree and lights.
- Use battery candles on a tree, never lit candles.
- Do not leave lit candles unattended in a room.
SERVPRO of Jackson/Crockett County wishes you a safe and happy holiday season!

National Preparedness Month
8/30/2017 (Permalink)
Disasters Don’t Plan Ahead. You Can.
Plan. Plan. Plan. “Disasters Don’t Plan Ahead. You Can.” That is what National Preparedness Month (NPM) wants you to have in mind during this September 2017, particularly when we still have fresh in our minds the terrifying images of the aftermath of hurricane Harvey in Texas.
How to respond during an emergency? What to do when disaster strikes? We should all take action to prepare! Let’s get ready to help first responders where we live, work, and visit. Engage in preparedness actions at home, work, business, school, and place of worship.
Make a Plan for Yourself, Family and Friends
Other steps you can take could be flood-proof important documents by putting them in plastic bags to protect against water damage and keep some cash on hand in case of emergencies.
Making digital copies of important documents and save them on the cloud or a secure cell phone app could become handy in case disaster strikes. Flood insurance policies have a 30-day waiting period before they go into effect. Plan now for floods www.floodsmart.gov.
Natural gas leaks can cause fires following disasters. Knowing how to shut off utilities like gas, water, & electricity is key after a disaster.
Plan to Help Your Neighbor and Community
Almost half of Americans expect to rely on their neighbors after a disaster. Learn skills you need to help yourself and others until help can arrive. That was the case of Carolyn Salazar, a retired Texan nurse who spent the time hurricane Harvey was striking Texas this August checking in with other neighbors.
Keep your congregation safe. Make sure your house of worship has a plan for all types of emergencies.
Ready Business

A Typical Day
12/22/2016 (Permalink)
Typical? What's that? In all actually, we normally start our day at 7:30am by having a informal meeting to go over the day's agenda. Our production manager decides which crew member goes to which customer and they are on their way. We often get "curve balls" thrown at us by receiving emergency calls. At that time, we contact our technicians to determine who can more easily and quickly respond to the emergency call. The technicians that are responding to the emergency call will come back to the office and make sure they have everything they need and rush to the customer's home. Then, they contact the adjuster (in most cases) and brief them on their findings. Then they're off to their next task.
Once they complete the initial visit, our office administrator creates a file for the customer and confirms that all the necessary documentation is on file and begins to write an estimate based on the data collected from the technicians.
